He said that high mortality rate has been observed in patients suffering from serious illnesses. He said that as per the advice of MOs and RMOs, the state government was providing free medicines to the patients undergoing treatment for hypertension and diabetes. He said that it was important to focus on the activities related to covid-19 and it was important to continue to provide essential medicines to reduce the incidence of disease and death from these health conditions.

He said that during the restricted conditions, front line workers / volunteers were distributing medicines for hypertension and diabetes to the homes of such patients to ensure safety. He said that the community health authorities were issuing medicines for a period of at least 4 weeks and up to three months at a time depending on the availability of medicines.



He said that all the medicines were being distributed among the patients in such a way that there would be no shortage of medicines in the government hospitals. Instructions have been issued that the primary healthcare team at sub-center level including health fitness centers should be encouraged to treat patients suffering from hypertension and diabetes. He said that the staff of the districts have been asked to give a message to promote healthy, low fat and low salt diet and exercise and yoga.


He further said that World Health Organization-IHCI (India Hypertension Control Initiative) project was involved which was working well in five districts (Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Mansa and Pathankot) and should be started in all the districts. Has been.
